Cruise Ship Information

Atmosphere on board
If you have no desire to be on a cruise ship with thousands of other people, so there is  choice of a river cruise with a maximum of 140 passengers sound might much better. you  will have  an excellent cruise vacation and should cruise with AmaWaterways.
Inside, AmaDolce features a host of amenities designed to sooth and entertain when you’re not admiring the passing scenery. She features a unique, 1.5 story library, a beautiful main lounge and bar, a reception area, gift shop, an aft-facing lounge, and a bow-facing seating area. The ship’s restaurant features fine cuisine influenced by local specialties and ingredients. Ample open seating is available on the Sun Deck, which also features a whirlpool and a jogging track.

AmaDolce features a passenger elevator that travels between Violin and Cello Decks. Complimentary bicycles are available onboard for guests to take ashore. The large main lounge had comfortable seating for all passengers, plus the bar and coffee station. The smaller aft lounge is more intimate. We were happily drowsy enough after dinner that we usually skipped the nightly entertainment of singing, piano, and dancing. We liked the variety of items available at the small gift shop. Best of all were the free postcards and postage available to send to your envious friends and family back home. The library was always available to grab a novel, travel guide, or daily news. The Sun Deck was closed during cruising on the Main-Danube Canal and Main River, due to the many low bridges and locks. But once it is open, it has seating for all passengers, including a covered area. There is a small hot tub on the Sun Deck.

Fitness And Spa
Onboard Activities: One might have assumed that the general lack of activity venues on a river ship compared with the giant ocean cruise vessels would have caused passengers to be bored. Nothing was further from reality aboard AmaDolce. For one thing, there were very few occasions when the ship was sailing during the day and passengers were more often sightseeing off the ship for the better part of each day.

The fitness center, although small, was ample for this cruise, as most passengers had precious little time to compete for use of the exercise equipment. Again --with each day packed with shore excursions that often involved pretty significant walking, and two optional bicycle tours, there wasn't much need for additional aerobic exercise.

Food & Dining
Indulge in the award-winning menu items in the Main Dining Room while onboard AmaDolce. Feast on freshly baked breads and pastries for breakfast, choose from a plethora of enticing lunch items including salads, pastas dishes, and more, all made to order, from the Main Dining Room, or opt for the lunch buffet. For dinner, treat yourself to complimentary and free-flowing wine, beer, and spirits while enjoying multi-course international fare in the Main Dining Room.
Our onboard culinary staff offers sophisticated menus comprised of wonderful soups, fresh produce, high quality choice cut meats, and fresh fish and seafood. Your Maitre d' always welcomes you to the restaurant with a bright smile.

Start your day with a lavish gourmet champagne breakfast buffet. Choose from a rich assortment of breads, croissants and pastries, a variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, and smoked salmon. Sample the delicious cheeses, cold cuts and local sausages, as well as our daily regional specials. An array of traditional breakfast items is also available from the menu.

Return from your shore excursion to a delicious lunch. Start with mouth-watering hot or cold appetizers, homemade soups, then choose from a selection of great entrees, finish off with a delectable dessert and complimentary cappuccino.

In the evening, be our honored guest for an elegant dinner or a traditional theme night with a feast of regional specialties. Enjoy delicious cuisine and complimentary free-flowing wines from the local vintners.

Entertainment
Entertainment is focused on local customs and culture -- performances by European dancers or an orchestral group keep passengers occupied in the evenings. There are also some more down-to-earth offerings such as an always entertaining crew talent show and wacky trivia night. Before dinner and later at night after dinner and the local entertainment, the resident musician -- provided easy listening onboard, a pianist plays a variety of music before and after dinner, and quite a few passengers on our sailing had enough energy later to dance. On some nights, local entertainment plays in the lounge. The cruise director's nightly talks, mostly focusing on the events of the following day, are humorous and enjoyable, as well as informative.

Staterooms
There are eight different categories of accommodation aboard AmaDolce: at 140 square feet are the Single Accommodation. These two staterooms are located side-by-side on Cello Deck, and feature a French balcony – making them ideal for solo travelers who don’t want to compromise. These feature a wardrobe, bathroom with shower, and a desk with internet access and a flat-panel television.
Categories D and E measure 170 square feet, and are located on Piano Deck. They feature fixed windows and offer a sitting area, desk with internet access and flat-panel television, and a bathroom with a stellar multi-function shower that is to die for.
Categories A,B and C are also 170 square feet, but are located on Cello and Violin decks. They feature all the amenities of the Category D and E staterooms, but with the addition of floor-to-ceiling windows which open to a French balcony. Category A staterooms offer a slightly more desirable location, being one deck higher than Category B and are located amidships.

AmaDolce has one Category A+ stateroom located all the way forward on Violin Deck. It offers all the amenities and features of a standard Category A stateroom, but is appreciably larger at 225 square feet.
Topping off the accommodation choices are three Junior Suites. Located on Violin Deck, these suites are a comfortable 255 square feet and feature a full bathroom with shower and tub, a flat-panel television, mini bar, spacious wardrobe, and a full size window in addition to a complete French balcony. As with many ships, these suites can sell out quickly, so it pays to plan ahead.

Tipping
Recommended gratuity is 3 euros per passenger, per day, for the ship's cruise manager and 12 euros per passenger, per day, for the crew. This can be paid with cash or credit card. It's good form to tip tour guides 1 to 2 euros for half-day tours and 5 euros or more for full-day outings.

Fellow Passengers
AmaWaterways generally appeals to well-traveled, 50-plus passengers with a strong interest in culinary arts and active exploration. Geographically, passengers are strongly drawn from North America, but the cruise line attracts a solid representation from the U.K. and Australia, where its partner, APT Touring, also markets the line.

Our recommendation
Day and night, the prevailing dress code is country club casual, except for the once-a-cruise Captain's Dinner, when male passengers don jackets and ties and women wear cocktail garb.
Every ship is nonsmoking (except on the sundeck) and features a beauty salon and massage therapist. Unlimited local wines, as well as beer and sodas, are included with each open-seating lunch and dinner, which consists of indulgent regional cuisine with special selections from local European ports.

AMA ships feature international staffs. The majority of workers onboard are Hungarian, Romanian and Slovakian, and all staff members speak English. Each cruise also features a knowledgeable cruise director who does everything: leads shore excursions, arranges for airport transportation and offers running commentary during scenic cruising.

Daily sightseeing programs are included with each cruise, and tours include wireless audio devices so cruisers don't miss a word on history or culture. All ships offer roughly 20 bicycles that passengers can use to explore ports.
